Behind the Scenes: When doves cry Hair X show

As you know, Reds is all about hair. While most of our work centers around giving our clients great service in our busy salon, we also do a lot of work developing and celebrating the skills of our stylists outside of the salon’s walls.

One recent opportunity was the inaugural New Zealand Hair eXpo held this June. Here our Emerging Talent Team, Nikkie, Jelissa and Amberley represented Reds, showing New Zealand’s hairdressing heavyweights what they think is current and creative. As part of the show our team worked to create a stunning performance, incorporating music, images, fabulous fashion and of course, cutting-edge hair design, to demonstrate their talent.

The team’s concept was based on Prince’s iconic 1984 music video, When Doves Cry. Inspired by Prince’s video, the team created two distinct looks for the show; one light, soft and innocent, the other dark, edgy and provocative.

If you have never had the pleasure of working on a Reds shoot, it is a style Mecca where your most luxe fashion dreams come true — an abundance of beautiful clothes, fabulous makeup artistry and innovative hair design.

In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, photographer Louise Hatton created magic through the lens of her camera. Makeup artistry by Michelle Perry and Hayley Ness created the stunning makeup looks for the shoot while stylist Estelle worked hard for several days before, putting together the fabulous outfits for our models. Our gorgeous models brought our concept to life, embodying our themes of light and dark.

The shoot and subsequent show at Hair X left us so proud of the Reds team who put the show together. We can’t wait to blow the crowd away again at Hair X next year.
