Nickie Named Wellington Hairdresser of the Year

Once again our Reds styling team proved they are at the top of their game. At the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers (NZARH) competition last week our junior stylist Samantha won 2nd place in the Apprentice Men’s Directional Cutting Award, while our senior stylist Nickie won the Urban Night Hair Award. Nickie then picked up the Supreme Award for the day, winning Wellington Hairdresser of the Year!

Held throughout New Zealand, the NZARH Regional Hairdresser of the Year Awards is New Zealand’s premier hairdressing competition. The competition provides an important platform for our stylists to show off their skills. It also exposes our team to the fresh and exciting trends and techniques that other talented Wellington stylists bring to the competition.

As always, the level of creativity and skill on show was fantastic. With only 40 minutes to create some breathtaking looks, the standard was amazing. We especially loved the great colour combinations and the awesome styling from the pre apprentice competition.

Sam’s winning look was inspired by the rockabilly trend, putting a modern twist on the classic pompadour. Using contrasting colours and lengths, Sam created a totally on-trend look, impressing the judges with her technical skill and striking silhouette.

Inspired by the curve and soft colours of a sea shell, Nickie created a truly fabulous up do. Incorporating crimped and smooth textures, the soft shape and textures of the up do was contrasted with a blunt, smooth fringe. Nickie’s progressive style and unique concept wowed the judges and demonstrated Nickie’s remarkable talent as a stylist.

As the winner of Wellington’s Supreme Award, Nickie will be representing the Wellington Region at the upcoming NZARH New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year Awards. We’re so proud to have such a talented stylist as part of the Reds team and can’t wait to see Nickie compete against New Zealand’s best. Go Nik – You Rock!
