Summer Hair Care

For many, Summer brings glorious visions of natural highlights and long windblown hair. The reality? Blazing sun, hot temperatures and humidity which can damage your hair’s cuticle resulting in dry, drab, split, brittle or frizzy hair and ragged ends. To avoid these common problems here’s our top tips for protecting your hair this summer:

To protect your hair from UV-ray damage use sun protection filters before sun exposure. Products such as Kerastase Soleil Huile Celeste to prevent colour fade and dryness caused by sun exposure.

Prevent static frizz by applying a leave-in conditioner such as Pureology Instant Repair after towel drying hair. Leave in hair conditioners are designed to penetrate the hair cuticle thus protecting your hair from damage.

If you normally blow dry and use hot styling tools every day, try and give your hair a break during the summer months. Consider letting your hair air dry or take time out from ironing or curling. Hair braided when wet will air dry into beautiful waves.

Make sure you have the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks. When your ends are fizzy, it’s a sure sign that they are either damaged, split, or both.

For the summer months, be especially careful to use hair products that are specifically designed for your hair needs.

Because sun exposure can be just as damaging to your unprotected tresses as it is to your skin, it’s crucial for sun worshippers to think about regular sun protection for your hair. Make sure the products you regularly use have an SPF rating such as the Kerastase Soleil range.

To sweeten the deal Kerastase is giving away a beautiful Swarovski necklace when you purchase any two Kerastase products (while stocks last).

Remember that prevention is always the best action for your tresses. Take care of your hair during the summer and you won’t have to spend the rest of the year working to repair your hair. Speak to your Reds stylist about which products are right for you.
