The Art of Dry-Styling: Go Longer Without Washing Your Hair

Perfect for those who prefer to wash their hair more infrequently, our dry-styling guide will help you to go for up to a week between washes.

If you want to wash your hair more infrequently the first rule is to use product sparingly. The second rule is to use the right products. Kérastase’s new L’Incroyable Blow Dry, a re-shapable heat lotion that lets your restyle without getting sticky, is our number one dry-styling product.

Days 1-3

After washing your hair at night apply Kérastase L’Incroyable to wet hair and allow to air dry over night. With a slept-on base of L’Incroyable, you’ve already got some shape with very little effort. If some of the bends are going the wrong way, help them out a little bit with water and your fingers or a curling iron. To stop your hair falling flat through the day spray some dry shampoo at the roots (Kérastase Powder Bluff is great for oil reduction, without the grit of some sprays), and your choice of light hold hairspray if you think you need it. If you’d like more texture, loosely coil sections of the hair around a heated barrel and then pin in place with metal clips. Let cool all the way to set, then release.

Days 2-5

An up-do is a great option for days 2-5 because your hair will have a little more product in and the style will hold better. We recommend a super easy top knot. To do, simply brush your hair loosely to the crown on your head. Twist your hair into a loose knot and secure with bobby pins. Give your style a quick spray of hairspray to hold it in place.

Days 6-7

Because you haven’t washed for a few days, you will be able to work with your natural oils for a shiny and smooth blow out. Apply Kérastase Spray á Porter, flip your head over and blow dry your hair smooth with a flat paddle brush. To finish, spritz your paddle brush with a spray oil like Kérastase Elixir Ultime Volume Beautifying Oil Mist, running over the hairline and the ends, coaxing them into a more controlled bend.

Work your blow out it for as long as it looks good, then wash it out and start all over again.
