Given the continuing trend for brightly coloured locks, here’s our guide to keeping your colour looking vibrant and healthy.

Prevent Damage

Bright shades require a very light base hair colour, which usually means that your hair needs to be lightened. It’s important to maintain the health of your hair as much as possible before going bright. Super-porous, brittle hair does not hold onto colour well. So maintain the health of your hair and the longevity of your colour, by asking your stylist to use Olaplex when lightening your hair.  Olaplex is a protein bond builder which is added to the lightening mixture to avoid damage when lightening.

Cleanse

Each time you wash your hair colour can fade – especially when not using a colour protecting shampoo. Stretch out time between washes with a dry shampoo like Kérastase Powder Buff and when washing use a shampoo designed specifically for coloured hair like L’Oreal Vitamino Colour.

Pro tip: When washing your hair, use tepid to cool water. This helps to keep the hairshaft closed, meaning that you’r less likely to lose colour when you wash.

Protect

A heat protectant like Kérastase Ciment Thermique will help to maintain the health of your hair and the vibrancy of your colour. UV rays also fade hair colour. The Kérastase Soliel range is specifically designed for sun worshippers to protect the health of colour-treated heat-exposed hair.

Go for the Gloss: All you need to know about the Reds Glossing Service

Are you in need of a colour and shine boost? Bring your hair back to life with a Glossing service.

A Glossing service is a fast and demi-permanent colour service that enhances, enriches and tones natural or colour-treated hair.

Used on blondes it brightens and tones dull or brassy colour. It also adds shine and provides intense care for coloured hair, leaving it looking soft and beautiful. We recommend a Glossing service about 4-6 weeks after your regular salon colour appointment to enhance or maintain your colour.

Typically, a Gloss will last 6-8 weeks and will fade gradually – perfect timing for your next  salon visit!

Here are three reasons why a Glossing service is a must-have.

#1 Super Shine

We all love the sun, but sometimes the great outdoors can be harsh on your hair. Adding a Glossing service to your hair regimen will give it beautiful shine and also provide intense care for dry hair.

#2 Set the Tone

You loved your golden blonde six weeks ago, but now rose gold is all the rage. Ask for a Gloss to enhance or alter the tone of your current colour. A Gloss is also the perfect service to help neutralise your colour if it is looking a bit brassy.

#3 Protect Your Investment

A Glossing service in between colour appointments will help maintain your colour for longer. Due to daily washing and elements like sun exposure and heat, it’s only natural that your colour may start to look dull. With a Glossing service, you can give your colour the boost that it needs.

A new hair colour always looks amazing, but some people struggle to keep their colour looking fresh between colouring. So here’s our guide to keeping your colour looking gorgeous for as long as possible.

1. TREAT YOUR COLOUR WELL

Coloured hair does need a little more care than normal hair. Change your shampoo and conditioner to a colour protect formula and add in a weekly treatment to nourish your hair as well.

2. DON’T WASH AS OFTEN

If you have a darker hair colour, every wash can slightly fade your hair colour. Along with a specially formulated shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair, dry shampoo can help to space out the time between washes and preserve your colour.

3. DROP THE HEAT

Really high heat can fade your colour right before your eyes. It’s still okay to heat style your hair, but just drop the temperature a little to make sure you keep your colour looking its best and always use a heat protectant.

4. SUNSCREEN FOR YOUR HAIR

UV rays don’t just damage our skin, they can also damage your hair leading to colour fade. If you know you’re going to be outside for a long time, pop on a hat and apply a product with UV protectants to keep your hair looking its best all summer long.
